spx:

I was joking on Twitter about setting up some crowdsourced funding to get folks to SPX. Turns out Hannah Lee Stockdale is way ahead of us.
She’s set up an IndieGoGo funding drive to raise $700 to cover the costs of an SPX visit. What the hell…? I’m in for $20.
And that’s MDT personal funds not SPX cheddar for those with a mind for corporate governance issues.
Here’s a peek at Hannah’s pitch:
I am hoping to make it out to Bethesda, Maryland in September to attend the Small Press Expo. Getting the chance to connect with people (in real life!) and to share my portfolio of work will help me along in my career exponentially.

My plans are to create a short comic that serves as a sort of intro or “pilot” to a longer story I have been planning for a few months now. It’s a story about Anita, a jaded girl who’s too close to the cusp of adulthood to be considered a teenager anymore, and the secrets she finds in the forest behind her house. Up until now, I’ve done only comics of the autobiographical variety and I would love to stretch my muscles into new territory!
If all goes according to plan, I will have it printed and all primped and pretty to hand out to folks at SPX! (and to the lovely folks who donated but couldn’t make it to SPX)… I don’t get a whole lot in the way of job prospects around my neck of the woods! And this combined with the glorious post-grad money woes and anxiety, I know that missing out on such a great opportunity that is SPX would only slow me down! The magic of the world-wide-web can only help me so far.
I’ve been in love with comics, graphic novels, webcomics, etc, for years now, and they have been such an inspiration to me personally. It’s a big deal for me to try and be a part of the thing that’s inspired me so much.
