What are your favorite things to draw? Oh, oh, and what are your Major Influences (ooo big words)
I really like drawing critters and masks and ladies in “ugly” frumpy sweaters! I also really enjoy getting lost noodling out intricate patterns and ways to emulate texture in sketchbooks. I think it’s a fun challenge to see how far you can go making a pattern or texture with just a single pencil.
And in terms of influences, my biggest is probably the work of Stacey Rozich. I am also hugely inspiried/influenced by mid-century design as a whole, (lots of love to Whorange!) especially Alexander Girard’s body of work.
I am absolutely in-love with everything you do! I'm in college for art right now and in the middle of a big project. Seeing all your work is inspiring me more than I have been in a long time. I was wondering what kind of gouache you use?
oh my goodness, that is immensely flattering, thank you so much!! (and good luck on your project, or break a leg, whatevers appropriate)
most of my gouache comes from those sets Reeves have that are less than $20. naturally, they aren’t the highest quality paints, but I like using them for my quickie/personal paintings. my favorite gouache paints have to be the stuff Winsor & Newton have, though. a little pricier, but way better in the quality department.
Hey! Looks like you had a grand time at SPX! I'm so bummed that I didn't make it out there. :( BUT! I WANTED TO ASK! Have you got any copies of your comic left?
I sure did! Probably two of the best days I’ve had in my (somewhat) young life.
I DO have a handful of copies left, but they are mostly set aside to mail to people who gave to the Indiegogo and were unable to make it to SPX for me to hand it to them in person. Once I’m done mailing out stuff to the backers, I’ll see where I’m at. If I have a lot left, I might sell em!
Besides that, chances are I’ll be posting the comic online in a few months anyway, so you’ll most likely see it eventually!
I just wanted to let you know that your art in particular is really helping to keep me excited about my comic, and keep developing and moving forward with it <3
oh man oh wow thank you! that is enormously flattering!
I hope you can keep kicking butt and I would love to someday see this comic!! <3<3
What do you use to color your art? Im having a pretty bad time with color pencils and markers
Quite a lot of different things, actually! Anything digital is with Photoshop CS5, and in terms of traditional media, I tend to stick with gouache paint (the paints Winsor & Newton make are my personal faves) and Copic Sketch markers.
It doesn’t hurt to experiment with different mediums to see what really “clicks” with you! I didn’t really go to gouache until I gave watercolor and acrylic a try. And nothing is instantaneous either! The only way to become truly confident with any medium is to practice your butt off. Even if you don’t like the end result, at least you are creating something in the end, and that’s a step forward as compared to not doing anything at all!
GOT'DAMN, GURL! Your art just keeps changing and changing! I love seeing these latest, polished, comic bits! Very Meredith Gran feel! Your art's -really- loosening up, and I just love it so much.
Ahh, thank you very much! I’m kinda relieved to hear someone say my stuff’s “changing” rather than “staying the same” in a way. I was worried about my “style” being inconsistent for quite a while but that’s when I just snap myself out of that daze and remind myself that if I’m worrying about that thing called “style” more than anything else, then I’m not doing myself any favors! BUT I’M RAMBLING- and oooh Meredith Gran, that’s right in the idol-zone right there, haha.
But thanks a bunch! <3
So what happens if your Indiegogo goal isn't met? Can you still make the trip on only $613 or some other amount that is less than your ideal target?
Yep, I’ll still be going! I actually have an envelope tucked away, of some money I made through working odds-n-ends jobs as a sort of “buffer” in case I didn’t come anywhere near my goal on the Indiegogo. But I’m already blown away with what’s been contributed already! It’s already exceeded my expectations exponentially, so I’ll still be going whether I meet my goal or not. Right now it really comes down to the quality and amount of comics I print. If I manage to meet my goal, it means a higher amount of nicely printed comics. (and if I somehow miraculously go over my goal, I am already plotting ~color covers~!!)
Moonsetter (Homestuck Volume 9)
Ahhh that’s pretty much my favorite song from that album too! :D
the discography of Francois Hardy
Woaaah one of her songs was in the Moonrise Kingdom trailer… I’m okay with this.
